soldiers around the mining areas. Domestic violence, rape
and prostitution have increased and women are at heightened
risk of contracting HIV/AIDS and other STD infections from

Consultation
on the implementation of the ‘Protect,
Respect and Remedy’ Framework organised
on 11–12 October 2010 at Geneva, Switzerland.
Organised under the aegis of the United Nations
Secretary Generals Special Representative on Business
and Human Rights, the consultation provides an opportunity
for civil society representatives to offer their
views to the Special Representative of the Secretary
General regarding the Guiding Principles for the
proposed framework and follow-up options. The International
Secretariat based in Hyderabad, India, represented
the RIMM network in the Consultation.

Forum
on the theme ‘Business and Human Rights:
The Role of National Human Rights Institutions’.
Organised on 7 October 2010 at the City of Edinburg
Chambers, Edinburgh, Scotland (United Kingdom).
This was followed by a Conference (on the same theme)
organised between 8 and 10 October in the building
of the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh. The Conference
was co-hosted by the Scottish Human Rights Commission
and the International Coordination Committee of
National Institutions for Promotion and Protection
of Human Rights.While the Forum provided an opportunity
for NGOs to share their experiences on the topic
including the role of NHRIs., the expected outcome
of the Conference was to develop guidance to NHRIs
on human rights and business with the aim of adopting
a final Declaration and Plan of Action. The International
Secretariat based in Hyderabad, India, represented
the RIMM network in the Forum and Conference.
